This will depend on your exact HSA. The key with most HSAs is to prove medical necessity. So if you want to ensure this expense will be qualified, you may want to get a letter of medical necessity from your physician.

From a general health perspective, it’s always good to consult with your physician before starting an exercise program. Many choose to consult with a physician to make sure additional testing like an X-ray isn’t required. The need for a physician script for physical therapy is dependent on your state and its direct access laws.
